Free Access to Research Papers on Service-Learning

The proceedings from the VII Service-Learning Researchers’ Symposium hosted by CLAYSS on 20th August 2025, with the participation of professors and researchers from different hubs of the Uniservitate Global network, are now available [in Spanish].
The Symposium has been organized by CLAYSS since 2004, with seven editions held to date (2004, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2023 and 2025). It is part of the International Solidarity Service-Learning Week agenda, aiming to contribute to the theoretical foundation of service-learning. It also provides researchers with opportunities to meet and exchange ideas, and raise awareness of experiences in different educational settings. The topics included in the proceedings are the following: a) contributions to the definition of “service-learning” and “solidarity service-learning”; solidarity, fraternity, spirituality and service-learning; b) monitoring and evaluation of institutional programmes; frame, follow-up and scope of institutional policies to implement and foster the service-learning approach; c) case studies and systematization of service-learning programmes and practices. All members of the Uniservitate global network are invited to use and share this material, which contributes to service-learning and fosters holistic education.

Fostering Spirituality in Service-Learning Initiatives

In December 2025, the Ibero-American Service-Learning Journal (RIDAS, University of Barcelona-CLAYSS) published Aproximaciones a la noción de espiritualidad y condiciones para su promoción en los proyectos de aprendizaje-servicio [Approaches to Spiritual Concepts and Requirements to Promote Them in Service-Learning Projects] (Gargantini, D.; Martinez-Odría, A.; Martínez, M.; Núñez, C.; e Inzulza, M.). This article by the Uniservitate Global Network provides a comprehensive understanding of spirituality and identify its constitutive dimensions, so that it can grow in service-learning projects. Available [in Spanish]
GREM, the Research Group in Moral Education at the University of Barcelona, has published a review of the aforementioned article: “The work presents spirituality as a key dimension —yet largely unexplored— of the educational results of solidarity service-learning. It also lays conceptual and methodological foundations for future research, identifying indicators and practices that will enable to promote spirituality —consciously and systematically— in higher education.” We invite you to read it here [in Spanish]
The link between spirituality and service-learning is highly relevant to contemporary education and the global Uniservitate network. Since its inception, the network has explored this connection through dedicated publications and as a central theme for reflection across various activities.
