ALICE AKINYI KAUDIA


Alice Akinyi Kaudia (PhD) is the former first Environment Secretary at Ministry of Environment and Forestry in Kenya during 2008 and 2018 period. She has extensive professional experience spanning over three decades and has held various high-level national, regional and international engagements including being Associate Lecturer at Institute of Climate Change and Adaptation, University of Nairobi thought leader on community driven agribusiness and air pollution management. She is the former regional Director for the International Union for Conservation of Nature in East Africa, Co-Chair of Global Green Growth Knowledge Partnership and National Chair of Global Green Growth Forum Kenya.

Currently, she is a member of World Resources Forum Advisory Board; Coordinating Co-Chair of Integrated Assessment of Air Pollution and Climate Change in Africa and Senior Africa Adviser at the Climate and Clean Air Coalition.

Dr Kaudia provides professional consultancy services in ecosystem restoration, community driven agribusiness, environmental policy development and implementation and technical support to research students.

BEATRIX BOUWMAN


Mrs. Beatrix Bouwman (Bibi), has experience as a development practitioner, academic and researcher in the field of microbiology, agriculture, business, sustainable development, in technology transfer, as well as community engagement management for more than 15 years, at North- West University (NWU) in South Africa (SA).

She has an MSc degree from the University of Johannesburg and an MBA from NWU. She has participated in Participatory Rural Appraisals in Mpumalanga and community needs and asset assessments, doing engaged research. Currently she heads the strategic sustainability reporting team of the NWU, which includes reporting with an emphasis on people, planet and profit. As such, all universities are now members of a Community of Practice in SA, which are coordinating and promoting reports on how Higher Education is contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals. She heads up a subcommittee to advocate for this work. She is also a member of the South Africa Global Reporting Initiative Focal point. At the NWU, she is driving impact measurement in community engagement. As longest serving executive member of the South African Higher Education Community Engagement Forum (SAHECEF), previous Chairperson and representative of the NWU on SAHECEF, she is well informed on the latest developments in community engagement in SA. She also acted as the webmaster for www.sahecef.ac.za and manages the SAHECEF Facebook page. She has access to an extensive network in South Africa and is keen to facilitate the practice of service-learning as a pedagogy in African universities. She is currently also a member of the Universitate academic sounding board.

Dr. Draru Mary Cecilia, LSMIG, PhD

Sr. Draru Mary Cecilia, LSMIG, Ph.D. is of the congregation Little Sisters of Mary Immaculate of Gulu (LSMIG) in Northern Uganda and began her role as ASEC Executive Director in November 2017.

Sr. Draru has vast experience on gender, education and sustainable development in Africa. She received her Ph.D. in September, 2017 from Radboud University in Nijmegen, Holland after successfully defending her doctoral thesis, Education Pathways: Narratives of Female Academics and Administrators. Prior to her new role as ASEC Executive Director, Sr. Draru spent 15 years serving at ASEC’s HESA partner institution, Uganda Martyrs University (UMU). Her most recent role at UMU was Dean of Students, where she was responsible for student welfare, student extracurricular activities and managing alumnae relations.

DANIEL MAINA MWANGI


Daniel holds both the Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in International Business and Politics (cand. merc POL) from Copenhagen Business School in Denmark. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience having worked both in the academia and corporate world. Currently Daniel is a Business coach, trainer and lecturer in the area of Social entrepreneurship and sustainability. He has coached and mentored over 200 sustainable social businesses across various sectors in different counties and countries with an aim of enabling the entrepreneurs uncover high potential, new growth opportunities and converting them into concrete growth initiatives. He has trained Youths and Women running enterprises in Mango, Coffee, Dairy and Sustainable energy value chains. He is the founder of Social enterprise society of Kenya (SESOK) and Industry Sector Board Member -Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA). He has been very instrumental in linking the students to the community leaders, business fraternities, potential investors, incubators/ accelerators and partners. Daniel is the current patron of Tangaza University Students Service Learning Alliance (TUSSLA) and a member of the Tangaza University Service Learning interim committee.

Rev. Dr. Munguci Denis Etriga


Rev. Dr. Munguci Denis Etriga, AJ, is a distinguished scholar and priest of the Religious Missionary Institute of the Apostles of Jesus. He holds an impressive array of academic qualifications from the Urbaniana University in Rome, including a Doctorate in Philosophy, a Licentiate in Philosophy, a Bachelor of Theology, and a Bachelor of Philosophy. His extensive academic background underscores his profound expertise and dedication to the field of philosophy, making him a respected figure in academic and ecclesiastical circles.

Currently, Rev. Dr. Etriga serves as the Director of the Tangaza University Institute of Philosophy, where he leads with a commitment to fostering intellectual and spiritual growth among his students. He is the Africa Hub Small Research Grant Coordinator and has contributed significantly to the academic community through his service on the Panel of Evaluators for the SL Africa Hub over the past year. His leadership and evaluative skills have been instrumental in advancing scholarly standards and promoting educational excellence in the region.

DR. CAROL HOK KA MA


Carol Ma is a leading expert in Service-Learning (S-L) and Ageing in Asia, serving as Head of Gerontology Programmes at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. She pioneered the service-learning curriculum in Hong Kong universities and successfully integrated it with the university’s curriculum, making it a valuable academic experience in higher education in Hong Kong and the region. In Singapore, Carol also spearheads curriculum development, community engagement, and research in gerontology, advocating for transdisciplinary education to address ageing issues. She has led impactful projects, including geragogy guidelines, innovative dementia care programmes, reminiscence facilitation programmes, and older adults’ functional capacity under the WHO ICOPE framework, etc. She is an advisor for caregiver and eldercare services with the NCSS, a member of the Tote Board Community Health Fund (TBCHF) Evaluation Panel, an advisor for the International Longevity Centre Singapore. Internationally, she is an advisor of Inclusive learning for the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning and an academic board member for the Uniservitate.

Br. Edmundo Adolfo De Leon Fernandez FSC


Br. Edmundo Adolfo De Leon Fernandez FSC, affectionately known as Br. Dodo, is an educator and a practicing artist. Currently serving as the President of La Salle Green Hills, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, and De La Salle Lipa, he also holds the esteemed position of President of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) and Treasurer of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP).

With a wealth of experience in the Lasallian community, he has served as the Provincial of the De La Salle Brothers Lasallian East Asia District (LEAD) from 2011 to 2019 and as the Provincial for the District of the Philippines from 2004 to 2011. At present he is the appointed Chair of the Commission on Education of the De La Salle Brothers worldwide.

Br. Dodo’s leadership extends beyond the realm of education, as he has also made a name for himself in the art world. An accomplished artist, he has held two solo art exhibitions and has participated in artist residencies in Vermont, USA, Japan, and France. His creative talents and passion for the arts have further enriched his multifaceted professional profile.

Br. Dodo is a member of the Board of several La Salle schools and La Salle supervised schools in the country.  He is a member of the Board of the Immaculate Conception Academy in Greenhills San Juan and the Board of La Salle College of the Arts in Singapore. His commitment to excellence extends beyond the realm of education and arts, as evidenced by his membership on the Board of the First Metro Asset Management Inc.

With a passion for both education and the arts, Br. Dodo is a multifaceted individual who continues to make a profound impact on the Lasallian community in the Philippines and beyond.

Mercy Pushpalatha


An educationalist served at Lady Doak College, Madurai, India, for over three decades, including as the Principal and Secretary for nearly nine years and as a freelance educational consultant. She is on the Board of Directors of the Madras Christian College Association, Chennai, India. A member of the Academic sounding Board in the UNISERVITATE, a global network for Catholic higher education Institutions. A Peer team member for quality assessment of the Indian Higher Education Institutions by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, India. The Chair of the Executive Board of the Lead Like Jesus Society, India.

CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE & MIDDLE EAST

Alžbeta Brozmanová Gregorová


Associate professor at the Faculty of Education, Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia. She focuses primarily on volunteering, service-learning, the nonprofit sector in Slovak conditions, and participatory approaches in social work. She authorises several publications, research studies, and articles in these areas. Since 2013, she has coordinated the service-learning strategy at MBU. She is a recognised expert in academia, practice, and the decisive sphere. She has been actively working in advocacy and development of volunteering since 2002. She was involved in preparing several strategic documents in the area of volunteering and youth in Slovakia.  Since 2011, she has been the vice president of the Platform of Volunteer Centers and Organizations and is currently president. She has coordinated several international and national projects. In practice, she also works as a trainer, consultant, and supervisor. She is a graduate of the Fulbright program, a member of the Government Council for Nongovernmental Organizations, a member of the Board of the Directors of the European Association on Service-learning in Higher Education, and a member of the Service-Learning Network for Central and Eastern Europe.

Peter Beer


Professor and Head of Research and Development at the Centre for Child Protection (CCP) since 2020, now at the new Institute of Anthropology. Interdisciplinary Studies on Human Dignity and Care (IADC) at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and, since 2019, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt Foundation. From 2010-2019 he was Vicar General to the Archbishop of Munich and Freising. During this time, he also chaired the VDD’s Human Resources Commission and was a member of the bishop’s working group on church labour law. Before his time as Vicar General, he headed the Catholic Office Bavaria after working in the field of youth pastoral care and elementary education of Catholic day-care centres. As an honorary professor for religious education, he was involved in the Philosophical-Theological College of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Benediktbeuern.

Bojana Ćulum Ilić works as full professor at the University of Rijeka (UNIRi), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Education. Her research interests lie at the intersection of engaged university, engaged teaching and learning pedagogy and youth civic education, while her teaching follows community-engaged pedagogy. She is Director of the University of Rijeka Foundation for the period 2021-2026. At UNIRi she initiated policies related to service-learning and was engaged in creating the University Charter on Formal Recognition of Students’ Competences Gained Through Community-Based Engagement. She is a member of the European Association of Service Learning in Higher Education, Central and Eastern European Network for Service-learning, and has been engaged in several EU funded projects focused on university community engagement and service-learning development in the EU. She is one of the experts that contributed to the development of TEFCE Toolbox – the first and only (European) institutional self-reflection framework for community engagement in higher education. She is a Fulbright alumna (Portland State University, Portland, Oregon, 2015/2016).

Alina S. Rusu


Biologist and psychologist) has received her PhD title in Natural Sciences in 2004 at University of Zürich, Switzerland. She is currently a full professor and the coordinator of the Civic Engagement Center at University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Her research interests are interdisciplinary ones, combining ideas and models from animal life with knowledge about human emotions and behavior. During the last twenty years, Alina S. Rusu has published numerous papers, chapters, books and conference proceedings in the fields of applied animal behavior, positive human-animal interactions, evolutionary psychology and in the area of civic engagement. She is currently one of the Fulbright Ambassadors in the Romanian academic environment and member of the General Meeting of the European Association of Service-Learning in Higher Education.

Rodrigo Andrade


Educator, university lecturer, project manager and coordinator of public policies for social participation. He is the University Extension Manager at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR). In addition, he directs the Bureau of the Educational Pact of the PUCPR, and is the institution’s delegate to the Dicastery for Culture and Education (Vatican). PhD (2020) and Bachelor’s Degree (2012) in Theology from PUCPR and Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Federal University of Paraná – UFPR (2015), in addition to a Lato Sensu Specialization in Pastoral Processes Management (2014) at PUCPR. Chantal Jouannet Valderrama

Enrique Ochoa


He holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires and is a specialist in international relations and negotiations from FLACSO and the University of San Andrés.

Between 2000 and 2015 he was a consultant at the National Ministry of Education, specialising in the promotion of service-learning projects in schools, colleges, universities and youth organisations.

Since the creation of CLAYSS, he has been involved in the development of the organisation’s International Relations, participates in the meetings of the Ibero-American Network of Service-Learning and in the coordination of the Latin American node of the Talloires Network of Universities.

Since 2010, he has been the coordinator of the Support Programme for Latin American Universities in Solidarity.

To these activities he adds the development of his teaching career at both secondary and university level, and his experience in teaching workshops and courses.

Daniela Gargantini


PhD in Architecture, Professor – Researcher at the Catholic University of Cordoba (Argentina) and Regional Coordinator of the University Social Responsibility Network (RSU) of the Association of Jesuit Universities of Latin America (AUSJAL).

Researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research of Argentina and member of the Experimental Centre for Affordable Housing. Also, she coordinates the Socio-housing Service, from where service-learning initiatives are developed for urban-housing improvement in vulnerable settlements.

She has published articles and taught courses on USR in several countries, among which his contributions to the ‘Policies and System of Self-Assessment of USR’, the ‘Compendium of Significant Experiences of USR’ and the ‘Diploma of USR’ of AUSJAL stand out.

GLADYS JIMÉNEZ


PhD in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences. Faculty of Education Sciences. University of Granada. Member of the Advisory Board of the Social Responsibility Observatory Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile.  Member of the Base Committee of the University Social Responsibility Network of ODUCAL (Organization of Catholic Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean) representing the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Chile.

Coordinator and Teacher of the Diploma Course: Training in Social Responsibility, oriented to academics of the Member Universities of the Social Responsibility Network of ODUCAL. Coordinator of the Physical Education, Art and Music Area Committee of the National Accreditation Commission, Chile. Between 1998 and 2013, she held various university management positions, such as: Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education; Director of Curricular and Formative Development; Vice-Rector of Teaching and Student Affairs and; Director of the School of Physical Education.

Leticia Ivonne López Villarreal


She studied a Master ́s degree in education with a specialisation in teaching-learning processes and a PhD in Social Sciences at the Tecnológico de Monterrey. A Master in Cultural, Social and School Services Management at the University of Florence in Italy. He has worked as a teacher in secondary, high school and higher education in different educational institutions such as the Mater Instituto, Universidad Tecmilenio, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Universidad de Monterrey, in subjects of: humanities, social sciences, entrepreneurship and social responsibility. He has collaborated in the development and consolidation of different projects and social initiatives. She founded the organisation Pequeños Gigantes Mexicanos A.C., which protects the human rights of children and adolescents living in residential homes in Nuevo León, through which she has contributed to the generation of public policies in favour of this population. She is currently Director of the Solidarity and Philanthropy Centre of the University of Monterrey.

Gustavo Luis Boquin


Born on 11 February 1964 in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He received his schooling at the San José de Flores school in Flores 1970-1981, directed by the De La Salle Brothers.

Graduated as a Bachelor of Theology in 1990, ordained deacon and priest in March and December 1991, respectively. He was chaplain and assistant to the Director of the Spirituality Institute of the UCA, 1998-2000; Director of the Spirituality Institute of the UCA, 2001-2006 and assistant professor of theology at the UCA, 1999-2008.

He was Executive Secretary of the Episcopal Commission for Ministries (CEMIN) 2010-2013, Director of the press office of the Archbishopric, 2007-2013 and Archdiocesan Censor, 2010-2020.

He also received a social entrepreneur award from Ernst and Young in 2017 for his work at the Mustard Seed Foundation, where he was an advisor to the Board of Trustees 2005-2017 and President from 2018-present.

Donna M. Carroll
Director Ejecutivo y Presidente entrante, Association of Colleges and Universities (ACCU)


Donna M. Carroll joined ACCU in September 2023 as executive director. Prior to joining the Association, Donna served with distinction as president of Dominican University for 27 years from 1994 to 2021. She recently completed a two-year appointment as an Interfaith America Fellow, helping navigate their higher education practice, while simultaneously serving as interim president of North Central College from 2022-2023.

A counselor educator by discipline, Dr. Carroll speaks and writes about leadership, vocation, and resilience. She has been a facilitator for the Council of Independent College (CIC) Presidential Vocation and Mission Seminar since 2013 and enjoys coaching new and aspiring college presidents.

Dr. Carroll is recognized nationally as an outspoken advocate for immigration reform and the rights of undocumented students. She has received numerous academic, civic, and diocesan awards for her justice-oriented leadership. In 2022, ACCU honored her with the Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, CSC Award, for her significant services and contributions to Catholic higher education.

Barbara McCrabb


Barbara brings 20 plus years of Campus Ministry experience in Catholic, state and private institutions. She is the recipient of the 2024 Archbishop Paul J. Hallinan Award from the Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA). In 2000 she received the Forsythe Award from the Catholic Campus Ministry Association for her leadership on a national, regional and local level. In 2008 she was acknowledged for an exemplary program, the Cunneen Fellows, as a service formation program. Barbara also serves as a board member of Uniservitate.

Her passions include team building, social justice, and faith enrichment. She has worked with Campus Ministers in formation, mentoring and leadership initiatives.

She holds a Master of Divinity from Washington Theological Union and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from St. Thomas University in Miami, Florida.

Howard Rosing


Dr. Rosing oversees the work of Academic Service Learning and the Egan Office for Urban Education and Community Partnerships and supports DePaul’s partnership with the Asset-Based Community Development Institute.

He works with faculty to develop scholarship on service-learning and community-based research and serves as a faculty member in Community Service Studies and an affiliate faculty member in Geography, Sustainable Urban Development (MASUD) and Community Psychology. He also co-directs MASUD. Dr. Rosing has taught and developed numerous service learning courses including Community Food Systems, Sustainable Urban Food Systems, and Geography, Food and Justice.

His teaching directly supports DePaul’s Minor in Food Studies and Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Urban Food Systems. Dr. Rosing is a cultural anthropologist whose research focuses on sustainable food systems development, urban food access, economic restructuring, and food justice movements in Chicago and the Dominican Republic. He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the State University of New York-Binghamton.

WESTERN EUROPE NORTH

BRAM VERHAEGEN


Born in 1997, Bram (Hilde S.) Verhaegen is a dedicated professional at the Expertise Centre Innovative Learning Pathways of the Flemish Department of Work and Social Economy. His team focuses on developing, gathering, and capturing scientific insights to inform policy and empower the workforce and enterprises, as well as fostering collaboration among enterprises, education institutions, and diverse stakeholders to mobilize Flemish society through highlighting inspiring examples and fostering innovative ideas within the field of lifelong learning. Bram also serves as a policy secretary of the Partnership Lifelong Learning, aimed at strengthening lifelong learning by facilitating the exchange of insights among important private and public education institutions, social partners, and other key stakeholders in Flemish society on various policy initiatives. With an educational background in history and international and European governance, Bram brings a multidisciplinary perspective to his work.

Bea Cantillon


Bea Cantillon is professor of Social Policy at the University of Antwerp and the Herman Deleeck Centre for Social Policy. She is president of the Universitair Centrum Sint Ignatius Antwerpen (UCSIA), member of the Royal Belgian Academy and corresponding member of the British Academy. She holds an honorary doctorate from the Université Saint-Louis Bruxelles. During 2004-2008 she was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Antwerp.

VEERLE CONINGS


Veerle Conings has been a senior policy advisor at the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO) since 2021. Her role is process coordination in the accreditation assessments of programmes at universities and universities of applied sciences in Flanders and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. She previously held the following positions: policy advisor in a Flemish ministerial cabinet, lifelong learning coordinator at the Public Governance Institute (KU Leuven) and process coordinator for internal quality assurance at Hasselt University. She guided change processes in public administration in the areas of strategic planning and organisational culture. She was actively involved in EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) policy development in higher education institutions.

JAN KENNIS


Jan Kennis has initially been trained as a researcher in Biology, working in Tanzania and DRCongo to study rodent ecology and teaching practical courses including a field course in Tanzania. Subsequently he worked in DRCongo as a manager of projects on basic education (for the Belgian NGO Congodorpen) and higher education (for the international research organization CIFOR), where he started to specialize in digital technology. He has been active as Technology Enhanced Learning Coordinator at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, where he started blended training courses in tropical medicine, was a trainer in transversal skills and supervised the development of the renewed travel website Wanda.

Berta Paz Lourido

She is also vice-president of the European Association of Service-Learning in Higher education, member of IARSLCE (International Association for Research on Service-Learning & Community Engagement) and coordinator of the ApSIlles Balears promotion centre, included in REDAPS (Spanish Network of Service-Learning). Currently she is also the Director of the Unit for Innovation in Sustainable Development, Health and Global Justice through Service-Learning, co-organiser of the International University Service-Learning Week, Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain.
