In his opening address, Msgr. Jos\u00e9 Ornelas Carvalho, bishop of Set\u00fabal and president of the Episcopal Conference of Portugal, was in charge of reading the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1841UhExA8ViSyYnzwP95Q7w2aNXJr4eW\/view?usp=sharing\">message sent by Pope Francis<\/a><\/strong> in which he encouraged the participants to continue working \u00ab\u00a0with outgoing projects that do not remain purely academic, but that form the heads, the hearts and the hands of their graduates in solidarity and fraternity\u00a0\u00bb.The Holy Father also exhorted them to foster relationships and collaboration between the different institutions <em>\u00ab\u00a0creating a culture of dialogue that can give answers to the deep yearnings of our society, breaking the individualism, sectarianism and rejection that threaten it. \u00ab\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-7718\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uniservitate.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Isabel-Capeloa-600x343.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uniservitate.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Isabel-Capeloa-600x343.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.uniservitate.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Isabel-Capeloa-768x439.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.uniservitate.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Isabel-Capeloa.jpg 836w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0In a challenging world like the one we live in, education is crucial to develop a sustainable and resilient future\u00a0\u00bb (Isabel Capeloa Gil).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Rector of Universidade Cat\u00f3lica Portuguesa, Isabel Capeloa Gil, after highlighting the importance of Catholic higher education for the common good, had the task of sharing with those present the message sent by the Secretary General of the United Nations, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1QdtCiyKfQWKGy25WtJ-ZMasc4zvviaHJ\/view?usp=sharing\">Ant\u00f3nio Guterres<\/a><\/strong>, in which he stressed the importance of the commitment and ideas of universities in the current context and invited those present to \u00ab\u00a0bridge differences, reduce human suffering, restore confidence and inspire hope.\u00a0\u00bb Guterres also stressed that \u00ab\u00a0quality education is a fundamental part of the response. (Nieves Tapia)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The event, noted for its great cultural richness as a point of convergence of more than 15 languages and 5 religions, featured the presentation of more than one hundred papers classified into three themes: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uniservitate.org\/category\/symposium\/path-of-spirituality\/\">service-learning as a path of spirituality<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uniservitate.org\/category\/symposium\/whole-person-education\/\">service-learning as a contribution to integral education<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uniservitate.org\/category\/symposium\/experiences-and-institutionalization\/\">experiences and processes of institutionalisation of service-learning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the two days, experts reflected on the ecumenical, interreligious and humanist vision of the spirituality of fraternity and service, on integral education and transformative spirituality, as well as on
