Self-Assisted Introductory Course to Service-Learning (For Members Only)

Being a member of Uniservitate means having free access to online training courses, among other benefits. The first of these programmes is already available and introduces educators seeking to expand their educational projects and connects them with the community to the solidarity service-learning approach.

The course, called Transformative Education: The Service-Learning Proposal, is offered in English and Spanish in a self-assisted modality. This way, participants can plan their learning processes according to their time.

The programme outlines the characteristics of solidarity service-learning and the basic concepts that explain the pedagogical lines included in this educational proposal. It comprises four parts —or stops— addressing fundamental definitions and the pedagogical framework of service-learning, the community at the heart of service, the role of the students and the service-learning didactic approach.

The course, which requires about 20 hours of reading and activities, provides the opportunity to access experiences and projects carried out in different institutions, discover theoretical contributions and basic concepts of the service-learning pedagogy and methodology, listen to the voices of specialists and test what has been learnt.

In addition to reflecting on personal experiences through participation in solidarity projects, the course offers activities to develop concepts and put them into practice in real or imaginary situations, many of which provide feedback with valuable information for self-evaluation of one’s journey.

A second self-assisted programme will soon be available, entitled Transformation plan. Keys to design service-learning projects, which will also be free for Uniservitate members.
