Arrangements for the V Symposium

The Uniservitate coordination team in Buenos Aires and LUMSA in Rome are finalizing preparations for the V Global Symposium held at the Italian university on 7th and 8th November.

Service-Learning: Transforming Higher Education from Within is the general topic of the event, focusing especially on spirituality and service-learning institutionalization. In addition, workshops presenting experiences under development will explore cross-cutting themes like the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by UNESCO and the Global Compact on Education proposed by Pope Francis.

The Uniservitate Awards 2024 is presented during the Symposium, with two awards for each of the seven regions of the Programme. Award-winning professors and students will travel to Rome to participate in all planned activities and receive their awards.

Moreover, the third meeting of rectors from universities supported by Uniservitate will take place during the two-day Symposium, following the dialogue initiated in the two previous meetings: one held in Rome during the III Global Symposium and another held virtually last March.

On Wednesday, 6th November, the day before the official opening, there will be a day dedicated to meetings and reunions of the Uniservitate Academic Sounding Board members, hub and Porticus representatives, and the award-winning professors and students. A private audience with Pope Francis is scheduled for Symposium participants on Saturday, 9th November. As planned, the formal closing of the activities will be a Mass on Saturday evening, the 9th.

Previous editions

The first two editions of the Uniservitate Global Symposium, in 2020 and 2021, were held online due to COVID-19 restrictions. The 2020 edition focused on introducing the programme, while the 2021 edition, jointly organized with the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, centred on spirituality. In 2022, the III Symposium was held in person at LUMSA in Rome (Italy), with live streaming on YouTube, and in close collaboration with the Global Compact on Education. Similarly, the IV Symposium at De La Salle University in Manila (Philippines) in 2023 focused on the service-learning syllabus features, youth leadership, curriculum insertion and problem-solving with community partners.
