In its first edition, the Uniservitate Award 2022 has received 198 submissions from different Catholic Higher Education Institutions worldwide. It is an international recognition of good practices that connect academic education and solidarity action, and address the integral education of students as responsible citizens who transform society in a critical and active main role.
“It is not a global competition, but a meeting in which each region shares its own identity,” says María Nieves Tapia, the director of CLAYSS-Uniservitate. In this sense, it is worth mentioning that there have been applications from all regions of the planet, although almost half of them come from Latin America and the Caribbean. Thus, in the III Global Symposium Uniservitate – the forum where the award winners from each region share experiences and knowledge, it is also possible to hear the voices from Africa, Asia and Oceania, North America and Europe.
As a result, the work of the juries of the 7 regions of the Uniservitate network begins now, and their announcements shall be done in July. Altogether, the Uniservitate Award will distribute a total of 84,000 Euros to provide continuity to the projects or initiate others. Finally, the aforementioned III Global Symposium Uniservitate is held in Rome from 26th to 30th October.
In short, the Award shows a hopeful perspective of the contribution of universities to their communities, through the students’ enthusiasm and the academic knowledge at the service of the transformation of reality.
